The FeedBoss chicken feeder is designed to stop waste and keep your feed dry. It is effective in stopping wild birds and vermon stealing feed and will reduce the risk of disease in your chickens. Without easy feed, rats and mice will also be less of an issue.
Using a treadle system, the verticle door opens with the weight of a bird standing on it, giving access to the feed. Operation is calibrated by the treadle weight and a return spring so the door will not open at all if any bird or rodent under 500g tries to get to the feed. Door is fully open at 800g-1KG.
The FeedBoss feeder is designed to carry a full bag of chook feed (including the 22KG bonus pellet bags that are sometimes available), so there is no longer any need to have half empty open bags lying in sheds attracting rats and mice.
Construction is entirely strong galvanised metal sheet with the only assembly required being fitting the feet and angle support pieces and the handles - a simple 10 minute job.
Unlike some other treadle feeders, the feed area remains protected even in the rain, and there is absolutely no potential injury issues with heads geting trapped in doors.
Training is simple: Initially, lock the treadle down/door open for the first few days until the birds get the idea that the feed is there. Then, using the second 1/2 way lock position on the treadle, the birds can still see the feed and will become used to the treadle moving slightly when they go to get it and the door fully opening. After a week or so, they will be trained and the treadle/door can be set to normal operation. There is no further need to training as and new birds introduced will quickly learn from the others.
